The Office of Student Services, the advising department for COE, is committed to helping students make their experience at UAA a success.  See below to find detailed information on the services we provide. Students are always welcome to stop by to see us in the Professional Studies Building, Room 218.  Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  We guarantee a smile and friendly welcome!

About Our Services


The UAA College of Education Student Services provides support, resources, and opportunities for students to identify and achieve their academic and certification goals. Student Services delivers accurate and friendly service to students from the first inquiry through application for professional licensure.  Student Services professional staff is an integral part of the community of educators at the College of Education (COE). The office director and staff work in collaboration with the faculty and staff of all COE departments to ensure quality services which include:

  • Advising and support for student success in initial teacher certification programs
  • Program information for graduate students and the general public
  • Background check information
  • Coordination of observation, practicum, and internship placements in collaborating school districts and agencies
  • Institutional recommendations (IR) for certification (teachers, administrators, and school counselors)
  • Licensure information

  • Provide students with a sense of community in a warm, friendly environment
  • Uphold the ethical standards of the education profession
  • Provide accurate information and literature to prospective and current undergraduate and graduate students and the public
  • Provide quality academic advising and support for undergraduates
  • Engage in recruitment and retention efforts to achieve a diverse student population
  • Provide appropriate field placements in schools and agencies
  • Recommend qualified graduates for professional licensure
