Jeff Hoffman, Ph.D.
Dr. Hoffman has worked in a number of industries while employed with companies such as Shell Oil, Borg Warner Automotive, and a biomedical company, Pioneer Surgical. His research interests are diverse but include the recent design of a residential wood heating device designed specifically for rural Alaska. He is a co-author on nine US utility patents for a range of devices related to the biomedical field including implants and instruments. Recent funded research entailed failure analysis of high mast light poles fasteners and a recent bearing design evaluation for underwater hydrokinetic devices. Dr. Hoffman is the director of UAA's Prototyping Lab that houses the CoEng manufacturing facilities that is used by students, faculty, and clients off campus. He currently supervises the "Engineer on Loan" program at UAA where inventors are paired with engineering students to help with designing and fabrication of their inventions. Finally, Dr. Hoffman supervises the CoEng Tutoring Center that employs engineering students to help fellow classmates navigate the engineering curriculum.
