The undergraduate certificate in retail management is designed to meet an acknowledged workforce development need in the Alaska retail industry. Currently, the retail grocery industry includes three of the top four largest private-sector employers in Alaska.

Program Overview

The Retail Management Certificate curriculum incorporates skills in business writing and math, computer applications, oral communications, management, bookkeeping and accounting, marketing, retailing, leadership, and human resource management.

Fully endorsed by the Western Association of Food Chains, the curriculum encompasses several business essentials, including the communication and interpersonal skills required for career success in the retail industry. Upon completion of the certificate, students who wish to continue their education can pursue an associate degree in general business or a bachelor’s degree in business administration or management.

The certificate was developed in conjunction with retail industry leaders and the UAA College of Business and Public Policy. It is administered by the UAA Community & Technical College’s Chugiak-Eagle River Campus.

The curriculum is also offered jointly through the University of Alaska Fairbanks Community and Technical College. Credits are completely transferrable between the two universities.
