How do I get started?
The Academic Assessment Plan must include the following categories:
- Mission Statement
- Program Student Learning Outcomes
- Assessment Process
These categories are detailed in the chart on pp. 8-9 of the Academic Assessment Handbook, January 2013 Revision.
The Academic Assessment Handbook includes a template found in the appendix on pg. 10. You can also view the template here. Programs are not required to use the template, as long as the plan addresses the required categories. If you choose your own format, please be sure to include a date on the Academic Assessment Plan.
After appropriate review on the program and college/school level, the Academic Assessment Plan should be submitted to email@example.com for review by the Faculty Senate Academic Assessment Committee.
When is a new program's assessment plan due?
Faculty should review both the UAA Curriculum Handbook and their college-level curriculum review guidelines for further information about when a review of their assessment plan by the AAC must be complete.
The AAC welcomes plans at any point in the curriculum review process but encourages submitting draft plans as early as possible. The AAC can be helpful in the early stages of formulation as well as in finalization of the plan.
How does a program submit revisions to its assessment plan?
Existing programs making major revisions to their assessment plans (including changes to PSLOs) should use the Academic Program Assessment Plan Action Form. Programs should first go through their regular curriculum process up through the college/school level and then go directly to the AAC.
The required materials are:
- Academic Program Assessment Plan Action Form with required signatures
- Cover memo describing the actions taken
- Updated Program Assessment Plan with PSLOs
- Word document with just the PSLOs as they should appear in the UAA Catalog (only required for actions taken relative to PSLOs)
After these materials have been through the college's curriculum process, they can be submitted to the AAC at firstname.lastname@example.org. The AAC will schedule a review of the assessment plan at a future meeting. Faculty initiators or a qualified faculty representative must be present at the AAC meeting for the review to take place.
If you're unsure if your changes are considered major revisions, please contact the AAC for clarification. Minor revisions to assessment plans can be sent directly to the AAC (email@example.com) for posting, and do not require the additional materials listed above.
