Human Resource Consulting

Benefits - HRS Consultants serve as resources to UAA faculty, staff, supervisors, managers and the Statewide Office of Human Resources regarding UA benefits. HRS Consultants are available to provide individual benefits counseling to clients and answer questions related to health insurance, life insurance, long term disability insurance, retirement plans and various supplemental plans. HRS Consultants also serve as the primary liaison for UAA clients with the Statewide Office of Human Resources and benefit plan vendors.

Training & Development - UAA's initiative, Human Resource Development (HRD) at UAA, is designed to provide supervisory, professional and career development training. HRS through collaborative efforts with other departments, assists in building UAA's community values. Human resource development and training questions/requests may be directed to HRS.

Payroll - Payroll at UAA is a function within HRS. The Payroll Coordinator and Technician are responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing for Anchorage and extended site employees. The payroll staff also provides technical assistance to the HRS Consultants, extended site campuses, and UA Statewide HR.

Recruitment - HRS Consultants are the point of contact for their assigned departments regarding the recruiting, interviewing, and placement processes; they also assist in researching and providing solutions to meet departmental recruitment and placement needs. HRS Consultants review the recruitment process ensuring compliance with federal and state laws, Regents Policies, University Regulations, diversity goals, and equal employment opportunities.

Labor Relations - UA has 4 bargaining agreements: Alaska Higher Education Crafts & Trades (Local 6070) University of Alaska Federation of Teachers (UAFT), United Academics-AAUP/AFT, and United Academics Adjuncts-AAUP/AFT-AFL-CIO. Consultants work in conjunction with UA Labor Relations staff and union-represented faculty and staff to ensure fair labor practices.
