I Am UAA - Dao Her

When she was just nine, Dao moved from a Hmong refugee camp in Thailand to the U.S. with her family. They've found opportunity and community in Anchorage. Dao is now a freshman at UAA pursuing a career as a dental hygienist and is among the first generation in her family to earn a college degree.

UAA's Micah Chelimo is once again an NCAA champion runner! He grabbed first place in the 3,000-meter and second in the 5,000-meter at the NCAA Div. II Indoor Championships in North Carolina last weekend. Congratulations, Micah!

It’s not over yet! The hard-charging hockey team wrapped up their regular season with a 3-1 win against UAF in the final game of the Alaska Airlines Governor’s Cup series. A post-season match against UAF this weekend decides who advances to the WCHA Final Five.

It once cost $3,025 a year to light one of UAA's lecture halls. Now, after a coat of white paint and installation of new LED units, lighting that lecture hall in the Professional Studies Building will cost only $750 a year and use 75 percent less electricity.
