He Who Gets Slapped

Auditions for the UAA production of Leonid Andreyev's He Who Gets Slapped will be held in the Mainstage Theatre in the UAA Fine Arts Building on Sunday, January 21, 2007, 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m
Leonid Andreyev's mystical melodrama mingles slapstick and tragedy. A betrayed scientist becomes a clown in a bizarre circus and triumphs by being slapped by other clowns. In spite of his popularity, his search for love plunges him into violent confrontation. Written shortly before the Russian Revolution, He Who Gets Slapped remains a poignant social and political critique bursting with romance and physical comedy.

Excellent roles for 16 actors. Age ranges for the characters are from early teens through sixties. Those with any circus skills are encouraged to audition, too. Talents could include gymnastics, juggling, acrobatics, etc. UAA regularly casts university students and community members in theatre productions. Minority performers are strongly encouraged to audition. The production opens March 2 and runs through March 18, 2007. Rehearsals are usually in the evening.

Scripts are available for 2-day checkout (a $10 refundable cash deposit is required) in the Fine Arts Office, on the third floor of the UAA Arts Building.
