Polaris Lecture George Marshall and Unheroic Heroism

On Thursday, Feb. 1, the Teaching American History series and the Democracy Forum in association with the Anchorage School District welcome the lecturer Josiah Bunting III from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Consortium Library, room 307. Josiah Bunting III is Chairman of the National Civic Literacy Board and President of the H.F. Guggenheim Foundation in New York City. He served as an infantry officer in Vietnam and is superintendent emeritus of the Virginia Military Institute. A Rhodes Scholar, he is author of several books, including An Education for Our Time and, most recently, a biography of Ulysses S. Grant for the American Presidents Series edited by Arthur Schlesinger. His biography of General George C. Marshall, who served as Secretary of State under President Harry S.
