I Know I Can

The UAA Alumni Association has an upcoming short term project that can get you involved by using just a couple of hours of your available time. I Know I Can provides early college outreach to students at the second grade level. Volunteers visit second grade classrooms with a book entitled I Know I Can, read it to the students, discuss their own college and work experiences with the students and give each student a copy of the book as a keepsake of the visit. The book tells the story of a group of animal characters trying to determine what they want to be when they grow up and how college fits into those plans.

This project takes approximately an hour total to complete with no pre or post work.

The dates and schools participating in Anchorage are as follows:

  • Willow Crest - Thursday, April 26 at 10:30 a.m.  - 3 classes with approximately 80 students
  • Mountain View - Friday April 27 at 10:00 a.m. - 3 classes with approximately 66 students

This project is being coordinated by the Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education with UAA, UAF and UAS Alumni Associations participating. This is a big impact project with a very small time obligation. If you are interested in participating on send an email to Stacey Marsh at anslm3@uaa.alaska.edu or call Stacey at 786-1941 by Friday, April 6.
