VOX
by Kathleen McCoy |
The UAA chapter of VOX, Voices of Planned Parenthood, is up and running again. This club enables students to speak out and get involved in reproductive health issues and rights.
The Federal Deficit Reduction Act of 2005, a law that went into effect in January,
made the prices of birth control devices double and triple on university campuses
in the past few months. VOX is currently working on getting the prices reduced at
university health clinics and safety net family planning clinics by initiating a letter
writing campaign to Senator Lisa Murkowski. On Oct. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., a postcard
table will be set up in the Student Union for students to voice their position on
this issue. Please stop by and sign a postcard.
The first VOX meeting will be held Friday, Oct. 12 at 2:30 p.m. in RH 111. If you
are interested in getting involved or becoming a member of VOX, e-mail christine.a.gibbs@gmail.com.
