Kodiak College Creates Endowment to Honor Tim Gail

by Kathleen McCoy  |

The Kodiak community was recently shaken by the passing of Tim Gail, a former mathematics teacher at the University of Alaska Anchorage Kodiak College. To honor and celebrate his life, a group of his friends and family gathered to create the Tim Gail Scholarship Committee. The committee is dedicated to establishing an endowment in Gail's name through the University of Alaska Foundation. The endowment will create scholarships to provide important funds for tuition, fees and books for students with preference going to those studying math.

"Tim was passionate about many things including education and mathematics," said Barbara Brown, Kodiak College Counselor and member of the Tim Gail Scholarship Committee. "Tim often said that his biggest challenge as a teacher was to instill in his students the confidence to learn math. He was also very concerned about the rising cost of tuition and the burden it created for students. Tim was a brilliant teacher and his students were important to him."

The University of Alaska Anchorage Office of Development is available to discuss giving options with potential donors. Contact Julia Martinez, Development Officer, at (907) 786-4847 with questions or for more information on how to make a gift to the Tim Gail Scholarship.
