Faculty Workshop: "Resolving Conflicts and Setting Expectations: Mentoring Graduate Students"

by Kathleen McCoy  |

Friday, August 29, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
Consortium Library, room 307

The UAA Graduate School and the Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence (CAFE) invite all UAA faculty to participate in a workshop with Tomalei Vess, Assistant Dean for Graduate Student Development at Duke University.

The workshop will focus on the principles and steps used in applying an interest-based approach to resolving conflicts and setting explicit expectations. It is appropriate for faculty working with undergraduate and/or graduate students who wish to avoid conflicts based on misunderstandings with respect to expectations for homework, performance and other issues. Participants will engage in facilitated discussions triggered by short video vignettes. Each vignette, directed and produced by the Graduate School at Michigan State University, depicts a potential conflictive situation within graduate education.

Contact Libby Roderick at CAFE at (907) 786-4605 or aner@uaa.alaska.edu for additional information.
