2010 Campus to Senate

by Kathleen McCoy  |

Thursday, Feb. 25, Noon
On Campus: Rasmuson Hall room 207A and B
Off-campus call: (712) 432-3100, conference code 253385

Climate and clean energy policy is one of the defining issues of our time, stirring nationwide debates across college campuses and in Congress. On behalf of Shannon Donovan, assistant professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at UAA, we invite you to join the conversation on climate change by participating in a statewide conference call with the offices of Senator Murkowski.

The call will begin with a briefing by an Alaskan student discussing current statewide engagement on campus with climate issues. McKie Campbell, republican staff director of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, will then discuss Senator Murkowski's position on clean energy and climate policy. After these two introductory briefings, Mr. Campbell will then respond to student questions and concerns.

Be part of this critical educational dialogue on climate change by submitting questions, in advance, for Senator Murkowski to climate@bard.edu or to Shannon Donovan at afsmd@uaa.alaska.edu. To be considered for the discussion questions must be submitted by Monday, Feb. 22, 2010.

While the call is designed to connect campus to Congress, concerned citizens are welcome to send in their own questions and join the call as well. Please help spread the word and also send us the contact information for others in Alaska so that we can engage the maximum number of Alaskan students, faculty, staff and citizens with Senators Murkowski on the call on Feb. 25.

Let's Talk is coordinated by The Bard Center for Environmental Policy as part of a national initiative connecting campus to congress.
