UAA Track and Field students receive prestigious awards

UAA senior Laura Carr was named Thursday to the 2009-10 ESPN The Magazine Academic District VIII College Division Women's Track and Field / Cross Country First Team. Carr, an art major with a 3.59 GPA, helped the women's cross-country team to its first ever Great Northwest Athletic Conference and West Region titles last fall. In Track and Field, Carr registered her fourth all-conference accolade with a second-place finish in the 5,000 meters, followed by her third trip to the NCAA Championships. Rookie Micah Chelimo was selected Thursday as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Track & Field Male co-Freshman of the Year for his performances during the 2010 season. Chelimo set a new GNAC record in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays with a time of 8:49.31. The Kenyan then went on to break the conference meet record in the same event with a time of 9:02.79. Read more at www.goseawolves.com.
