Cabin Fever Debates continue with semifinal round March 1, 2011

Championship Round: Thursday, March 3, 7:15 p.m.

The Seawolf Debate team is proud to sponsor the semifinal rounds on March 1 from 7-8:30 p.m and 8:30-10 p.m. The first debate will address the motion "This house supports Wisconsin's effort to curtail collective bargaining rights for public employees." Defending the motion in the role of 1st Proposition will be the team "Quad Shot [no whip] Decaf Extra Hot Caramel Macchiato" of Anoop Malik (junior, accounting) and Warren Jones (senior, political science). Closing the debate for the proposition will be "Your friends, the Cosmonauts" of Jonathan Stinson (sophomore, political science) and Matthew Stinson (sophomore, history). Opening the opposition debate will be "No my name's not short for anything" of Rory Redick (junior, civil engineering and mathematics) and Nika Snell (sophomore, accounting). The 2nd Opposition team will be "M n M" of Bexley Brown (freshman, undeclared) and Djamila Chettfour (sophomore, undeclared).

The second semifinal will feature the teams of: 1st Proposition "Southeast" of Tess Jagusch (freshman, psychology) and Miguel Rohrbacher (freshman, undeclared); 1st Opposition "The Powder Wiggz" of George Joy (junior, political science) and Justin Stephan (junior, English); 2nd Proposition team "Debatable" of Melanie Leydon and Austen Mersereau; and 2nd Opposition "RAMROD" of Megan Rodgers (senior, political science) and Kristin Baylon (senior, political science). They will be debating the motion "This house supports the use of aggressive entrapment to identify and foil potential terrorists" at 8:30 p.m.

The top two teams from each semifinal debate will advance to the Championship Round on Thursday, March 3 at 7:15 p.m. The top four teams will debate the motion: "The U.S. should not automatically grant citizenship to children born in the United States to parents who are illegal immigrants."
