UAA Disability Support Services is hosting a webinar featuring case studies and strategies for improving online accessibility in higher education. Learn more about the webinar presenters and read a detailed schedule here.

  • Jon Gunderson, whose accessibility survey of university websites was published in the December issue of The Chronicle of Higher Education, will talk about the strategies undertaken to encourage and ensure accessibility by the universities rated most highly for web accessibility. He will also discuss what his own university, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), does to address the issue of digital access. Susan Cullen will talk in a similar vein about her own campus, California State U. at Northridge (CSUN), which rated second out of 183 in Gunderson's survey.

  • WebAIM will talk about their ongoing grant-funded project to assist institutions in system-wide web accessibility efforts, addressing such issues as:
    • Gaining top-level support for institutional web accessibility.
    • Creating a campus-wide accessibility committee.
    • Benchmarking institutional web accessibility with an eye toward continuous improvement.
    • Gaining buy-in from faculty and staff.
    • Understanding how web accessibility may tie into regional accreditation.

  • Teresa Haven from Arizona State University (ASU) will discuss recent statements by DOE and DOJ regarding technology accessibility compliance and how you can work with your institution to enact necessary changes. Teresa's segment will provide DS professionals with an overview of recent legal updates, ideas for building alliances, and strategies for engaging key stakeholders in dialogue and helping them learn new perspectives on the need for JUST design.
