Interim provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs
by Kathleen McCoy |
Dear UAA community,
This week I met with our provost search committee, co-chaired by Susan Kalina and Anne Bridges, and with our national consultant, Sharon Tanabe, to begin the process of finding UAA's next provost. We anticipate this national search to take nine months to a year.
Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Mike Driscoll will soon be leaving for his new position as president of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. In order to facilitate a seamless transition, and after much consultation, I am appointing College of Business and Public Policy (CBPP) Dean Elisha "Bear" Baker IV to serve as interim provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs. Driscoll and Baker will coordinate the timing of their transition.
Dean Baker brings to the interim position more than 25 years in higher education, including serving the past four years as dean of CBPP. Since coming to UAA in 2003, he directed the Alaska Center for Supply Chain Integration and held the prestigious Harold T. Craven Professorship. Dean Baker has taught in both UAA and UAF's Schools of Engineering, as well as at Clemson University, and served as Dean of Engineering and Management Technology at Oregon Institute of Technology.
Please join me in welcoming Dean Baker as he takes on his new role as interim provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs.
