by Michelle Saport  |

The Vice Provost for Research and Graduate Studies (VPRGS) is offering a second year of the INNOVATE program, the purpose of which is to enhance research and entrepreneurship across the UAA campus. The VPRGS is now soliciting proposals for the 2013 calendar year. Last year, we received over 40 proposals and 13 of those were funded. The recipients of the 2012 INNOVATE awards have achieved many successes already-read more at the INNOVATE blog.

This year, the INNOVATE grant will provide up to $200,000 to UAA faculty members and researchers in its program. Awards will be announced in December 2012 with funding to start January 2013.

The purpose of INNOVATE funding is to enhance and stimulate research, innovation and invention at UAA by providing funds that will lead to publications, creative achievements, intellectual property and/or external grants. The awards are designed to encourage individual research as well as multi-disciplinary research teams and can provide an opportunity for mentorship of and research engagement for junior faculty.

All tenured and tenure-track faculty of the University of Alaska Anchorage who have a research component as a part of their approved workload are eligible to apply. Exceptions may be granted to other faculty with strong research and/or creative ideas; these individuals are encouraged to contact the VPRGS to discuss their proposals. Proposals from all disciplines are welcome. Please note that your department head and your dean must sign your submission form.

Two award categories will be established:

  • 10-12 awards up to $10,000 each for eligible faculty proposing smaller projects leading to external funding, IP, creative activities or submission for publication. These may be team or individual applications.
  • 3-5 multi-disciplinary team awards up to $25,000 each. Multi-disciplinary projects will involve mentoring of junior faculty. The principal investigator on these awards should have a demonstrable prior record of research achievement.

Deadline for submission is Friday, Nov. 2, at 5 p.m.

The proposal and submission form with all supporting materials should be sent electronically as an attachment to the Office of the Vice Provost of Research and Graduate Studies at innovate@uaa.alaska.edu. All referenced documents as well as information about previous awards may be found on the INNOVATE website.
