UAA names new provost
by Kathleen McCoy |
After a nine-month national search, Elisha "Bear" Baker, Ph.D., has accepted the position of provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs at UAA. The search committee narrowed the field of candidates to three finalists who visited campus for extensive interviews in November. Bear was chosen as the top candidate among the three finalists.
Bear brings more than 25 years of experience in higher education to the Office of Academic Affairs, including serving the past four years as dean of the College of Business and Public Policy (CBPP). Since coming to UAA in 2003, he's directed the Alaska Center for Supply Chain Integration and held the prestigious Harold T. Craven Professorship. Bear has taught in both UAA and UAF's Schools of Engineering, as well as at Clemson University, and served as dean of Engineering and Management Technology at Oregon Institute of Technology. Bear has been serving as UAA's interim provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs since June.
The provost serves as a key administrative officer for the university.
