Archaeology Day, Oct. 19

by Michelle Saport  |

Saturday, Oct. 19, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. University Center

At Archaeology Day, you can try to shoot a model bison using a spear throwing board (atlatl), learn about the human skeleton, find artifacts in a mock dig, make stone artwork or petroglyphs, identify a cabin's age from its logs, make a basket, learn about animal bones from archaeological sites and discover how to make a stone knife or arrowhead. An archaeologist will be on hand to identify artifacts. Movies and displays about archaeology in Alaska will occur throughout the day.

Everybody is welcome! The displays and activities are for all ages, from young children through adults. Professional archaeologists who work throughout the state will lead the demonstrations and activities.
