Friday, Feb. 13, 2:30-3:30 p.m. ConocoPhillips Integrated Science Building, Room 105A

The Department of Biological Sciences Community Advisory Board hosts the "What I Did With My Biological Sciences Degree" Seminar Series in hopes of providing the next generation of scientists a look at the career pathways available to them upon graduation. This series introduces UAA students and community members to industry professionals within the field of biological sciences and provides opportunities for students to ask questions and discover new ideas and possibilities.

All seminars are held in UAA's ConocoPhillips Integrated Science Building. The seminar series is free and open to the public. Pizza and refreshments are provided.

Please join us for our first seminar given by Nathan Lukes, D.D.S., owner of Nathan Lukes, D.D.S., and Associates Family Dentistry. Dr. Lukes will discuss his path from academia to opening his own private practice in Anchorage in this presentation titled, "How my biology degree led to a career in dentistry."

Lukes received his Bachelor of Science degree in molecular and cellular biology from Western Washington University in 1993. From 1993-98, Lukes became a research technician in the Department of Immunology at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Washington. After receiving his D.D.S., Lukes moved to Bethel, Alaska, and become a staff dentist with the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta Regional Hospital. Lukes served the Bethel community for four years before moving to Anchorage to open his own private practice, which has steadily grown in size ever since. While continuing work at his practice, Lukes also works as a part-time staff dentist with the Alaska Native Medical Center.

Come to Lukes' presentation and discover the many adventures his biological sciences degree has afforded him-and can offer you too. Free pizza and refreshments will be available, so come hungry.
