Farewell to Mike McCormick, assistant director of Student Activities

by Michelle Saport  |

Please join the department of Student Life & Leadership in congratulating Mike McCormick, assistant director of Student Activities, as he moves on from UAA after 10 years of service. Mike has been a champion for student programs and events helping to shape our many, vibrant UAA traditions such as Campus Kick-Off, Homecoming, WinterFest, Banff Film Festival and the No Big Heads Juried Student Art Exhibit. Through Mike's leadership and vision, our university has benefitted from the performances and presentations of distinguished authors, artists and intellectuals such as Jonathan Kozal, Taylor Branch, Nikki Giovanni, Mavis Staples, the Blind Boys of Alabama, Bill Nye, Isabel Wilkerson, Minnie Jean Brown and Michele Norris (to name a few)!

We are extremely grateful for all Mike has contributed and wish him all the best as he begins (in Mike's own words) "creating new options." We will miss his stories, energy, insights and commitment to students.

Send him an email (mrmccormick@uaa.alaska.edu) and wish him well as he pursues his many interests in writing, travel, music and nature. He asked not to have a farewell reception - so take a moment to connect with him. Thursday, April 30, was his last official day with UAA. It certainly won't be his last day as a Seawolf! Watch for him birding, at a UAA event or cheering on our teams.
