July 2015: Emergency preparedness workshop
by Michelle Saport |
From your UAA emergency manager:
As we witness the wildfire disaster across our state, in which many families had only minutes to grab important items before fleeing their homes, please prepare for what you would do in a similar situation. What things would you take with you in case your home was destroyed by fire or flood?
Consider scanning vital documents onto a digital memory stick that you can attach to your key ring (or put in a plastic bag in your Emergency Kit). Those documents will be difficult to duplicate if they're destroyed and will be important when the time comes to file for Individual Assistance funds following a disaster. Those documents could include:
- Identification card and Social Security card
- Proof of insurance
- Proof of ownership
- Banking records
- Marriage license
- Birth certificate
- Passport
- Medical records
