Emerging Leaders Program seeking mentors

by Michelle Saport  |

UAA Student Life and Leadership is excited to provide the Emerging Leaders Program once again to encourage the development of student leaders on campus. We have made a few adjustments to the program that we hope will lead to further learning and student engagement on campus. Students who participate in the program will participate in monthly workshops/retreats on leadership development, community service days and mentorship. All students who complete the program will be given a Leadership Distinction notation on their academic transcript upon graduation.

This year, we have updated the mentorship component to allow participants to learn more about leadership, reflect on their workshop experiences and have individualized attention from faculty/staff on campus. To serve as a mentor, we ask that you commit to meeting with your mentee at least three times each semester (guidance around these meetings will be provided). We will be hosting a short Mentor Orientation on Sept. 12, 2017, at 4 p.m. in the Lyla Richards Conference Room (Student Union, Room 103). We would also like for mentors to be able to attend the mentee's ELP graduation on April 27, 2018 at 11:45 a.m. in the Student Union Den.

If you would like to serve as a mentor this year for the ELP program, please sign up here. We will let you know your assigned mentee by Sept. 18, 2017.

In addition, if you have students that you think would benefit from participating in the ELP program, please send your nomination to kmorton11@alaska.edu. We will send them a personal email inviting them to apply.

Any questions, please contact Kim Morton at kmorton11@alaska.edu.
