Nov. 9, 2017: UAA Atwood Chair Tim Bradner to give public lecture on Alaska’s oil money
by Michelle Saport |
The University of Alaska Anchorage will host a public lecture by Atwood Chair Tim Bradner on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m., in the UAA/APU Consortium Library, Room 307. Bradner's talk will focus on how Alaska has used its oil money over the last four decades.
This will be the first public event for Bradner, the 2017-2018 UAA Atwood Chair of Journalism. A seasoned professional, Bradner's career in Alaska journalism began in 1965. Today, he is copublisher of the Alaska Legislative Digest, Alaska Economic Report and editor of Alaska Inc. magazine.
During the spring 2018 semester, Bradner will teach introductory reporting and writing and an upper-division course in public affairs journalism where he will lead students in coverage of fiscal and state issues.
"Alaskans face complex decisions that will reshape state government and our economy," Bradner said. "I want to help beginning journalists understand these issues so they can explain them to the public."
Bradner is a regular contributor to Alaska Dispatch News and Platts Oilgram, a McGraw Hill energy publication. He also writes for Anchorage Press, Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman, Petroleum News and Alaska Journal of Commerce, where he previously served as staff, covering energy and state government. Bradner's experience includes working for BP Alaska in public affairs and government relations.
The Atwood Chair of Journalism is among the nation's most prestigious endowed journalism chairs. Anchorage Times publisher Robert B. Atwood established the Atwood Chair at the University of Alaska Anchorage in 1979. Among the many positive contributions Bob and Evangeline Atwood made to Alaska's civic life, the Atwood Chair of Journalism has helped educate the state's next generation of journalists.
