Junior scoring guard keeps many balls in the air

Tara Thompson has a talent for making difficult feats look effortless. This past season she helped the UAA women's basketball team finish first in the final GCI Great Alaska Shootout and second in the NCAA Division II West Regional Tournament while double-majoring in accounting and management.

UAA and ASD to open second Alaska Middle College School

The Alaska Middle College is a partnership between UAA and the Anchorage School District (ASD). The middle college offers Alaska high school students the opportunity to earn college credit while also obtaining their high school diploma.

Ed Lester is principal at Newhalen School, on the shore of Lake Iliamna. After earning his bachelor's of education in 2002, he's been able to advance his education career from the village where he grew up thanks to UAA.

Each April, College of Education graduate students visit Newhalen School, in the Lake and Peninsula School District, to teach a week of interactive classes (as well as attend the science fair, judge the speech competition, watch the talent show, and even go to prom).
