Remember the six P's of emergency evacuation

by Michelle Saport  |

In the wake of Tuesday's wildfire in midtown and subsequent evacuation orders, the UAA Office of Emergency Management reminds you to consider what you would grab from your home if you were told you had only a few minutes before having to leave. In the event of an immediate evacuation in any type of emergency or disaster, here are the six "P's" to keep in mind:

  • People and Pets
  • Papers, phone numbers and Important Documents
  • Prescriptions, Vitamins, and Eyeglasses
  • Pictures and Irreplaceable Memorabilia
  • Personal Computers (information on hard drive & disks)
  • Plastic (credit cards, ATM cards, & cash)

It's a great idea to have a kit of emergency supplies that you can quickly access and toss in the car during evacuation, also. For guidance on building a kit, go to: ready.alaska.gov and click on "Alaska 7-day Emergency Kit."
