UAA begins expedited program reviews

by Michelle Saport  |

Dear UAA Faculty and Staff,

At the Sept. 12 Board of Regents meeting, UAA, UAF and UAS were asked to move forward with expedited program reviews to potentially find cost savings. Rather than predetermining a set of programs for review on the institutional level, UAA wants all programs to participate.

The chancellor and I have discussed this with different groups on campus, and we believe it is the best way forward for a fair and equitable process. The completed reviews will be due to the deans on Jan. 31, 2020, just one day earlier than for the regular cyclical process.

You can see the approved timeline and process, as well as the expedited program review templates, on the Program Review section of IR-Reports SharePoint site.

The chairs of the program review committees will receive guidance regarding the expedited program review and templates this Friday, Oct. 18.

Remembering that UAA is facing an additional serious budget reduction over the next two years, decisions to reduce, cut or consolidate programs are not going to be easy to make. All UAA programs make important contributions to the state, our communities and to individual students. If you have questions about this process, please feel free to get in touch with me directly at uaa_provost@alaska.edu.

Sincerely, John Stalvey UAA Interim Provost
