Chancellor Sandeen is proud to announce the winners of two award programs, Chancellor's Awards for Excellence and UAA/APU Consortium Library's Affordable Course Materials Award, for their outstanding work in support of student success and institutional excellence.

The UAA Department of Human Services is offering an array of upper-level course electives over mental health and substance abuse including a Human Trafficking course and virtual conference this summer. The Human Trafficking elective is a hybrid course and conference available to both students and community members and can be taken as a full UAA summer course or through the conference option only.

I want to wish you all a great summer. This year has brought many challenges, and I am grateful to all our faculty, staff and students for your flexibility. We are currently making plans for the fall 2020 semester. We know it will look a little different from past fall semesters due to the COVID-19 situation.

University of Alaska President Jim Johnsen has named Matthew Cooper as the university’s next General Counsel. Cooper’s appointment will follow the retirement of UA’s current General Counsel Michael Hostina in June. The General Counsel serves as the chief legal officer to the Board of Regents, statewide administration and all campuses throughout the university system.

OIT’s Video Conferencing Services announces synchronous Zoom training sessions, May 7-15. Sessions will cover the basics of using Zoom, security best practices, how to be an excellent host, along with an overview of special features like file sharing, screen sharing and breakout rooms. Useful and timely information for any Zoom user! Each session will be one-hour long, followed by a 30-minute Q-and-A.

UAA’s spring commencement activities looked a little different this year in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. But even a pandemic did not prevent UAA from celebrating the spring Class of 2020 graduates on May 3, via a special website.
