Acting UA President Michelle Rizk announces Dr. Karen Carey as interim UAS chancellor

University of Alaska Acting President Michelle Rizk has appointed Dr. Karen Carey to serve as interim chancellor for the University of Alaska Southeast (UAS). Dr. Carey will begin July 1, succeeding outgoing UAS Chancellor Rick Caulfield.

The news of President Johnsen’s resignation from the University of Alaska system yesterday may feel unsettling for many of you. I want to assure you that UA’s universities remain strong. As your chancellor, I am committed to moving forward positively to help ensure the bright future our students, staff, faculty and state require.

Jane Pallister announces retirement from athletic department

After over twenty-five years of service to UAA in many capacities, most recently in athletics, Jane Pallister will retire June 30. Athletics will be hosting a "Drive-By Bye" so you can wish Jane well and still practice social distancing. The event is planned for June 29 from 5–6 p.m. in the drop-off lane in front of the Alaska Airlines Center. Stay tuned for more details!

UAA Accounting Services will close early June 30

UAA Accounting Services will close at noon on Tuesday, June 30, for fiscal year end procedures. All department deposits are due to the Cashiering Office no later than noon.

Grace period to use FY20 Health Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) funds has been extended

The Employee Transitions and Benefits team would like to announce that effective immediately, the grace period to use FY20 Health Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) funds has been extended from September 15, 2020 to December 31, 2020. This means that the money leftover in your Health Care FSA after June 30, 2020 can be used for any services rendered up through December 31, 2020 and will not be forfeited until after December 31. If you enrolled or re-elected the Health Care FSA for FY21, those dollars will be used after your FY20 dollars have been exhausted. There is no action required by employees as this will all happen automatically through ASIFlex.

Summer Engineering Academies — still room in July camps!

The UAA Summer Engineering Academies offer a series of week-long, STEM-themed, and hands-on summer camps for students in 5th grade through 12th grade.
