Variant Lit publishes UAA professor's sophomore chapbook of poems

by Green & Gold News  |

Variant Lit will publish Associate Professor of History Ray Ball's fourth book in December of 2020. Lararium is Ball's second book of poems. It centers on the author's relationship with her deceased father, a zoologist who specialized in reptiles and amphibians. These poems explore themes of family, ecology, history, animal behavior and climate change. Evoking the piney woods of east Texas, the shrinking glaciers of Alaska and the ruins of Pompeii, Lararium contains lyrics of loss and narratives of hope in the face of despair.
