UAA is a campus affiliate of the National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI), an international leadership organization that works with colleges, universities and government agencies to create communities of belonging, increase cultural competence and eliminate racism and other forms of oppression.

The UAA Future Graduate (FG) program is a new program that received approval in December 2020 for the Master of Science in Dietetics and Nutrition program. All classes are online and the supervised experiential learning rotations are located in Alaska. The applications for the first cohort are due April 15, 2021 and the program start date is Aug. 23, 2021. UAA Bakery Cart offering Valentine's Day treats Feb. 10 and 11, 2021

UAA Bakery Cart will have Valentine's Day treats, in addition to normal offerings, available for sale online at uaaculinaryarts.mobilebytes.com this Wednesday and Thursday only from 9:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. (pick-up time is 10 a.m.–noon same day).

Alaska expands Tier 2 vaccination group, opens eligibility

Earlier today Alaska’s Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) announced it would open vaccine eligibility for Phase 1b Tier 2 beginning tomorrow at noon. This tier includes Alaskans age 50 and older who are at high risk of contracting COVID-19 due to existing medical conditions and frontline essential workers. Phase 2 also opens up the availability of the vaccine to pre-K, K-12, child care education staff and people living and working in some congregate settings. This will not affect eligibility for most UAA employees and students but may open up eligibility for some.

Get cozy: Nine in the Spine and Winterfest come home

One of the major annual fundraisers supporting the UAA Alumni Scholarship, Nine in the Spine and Winterfest have been reimagined in light of the pandemic. Themed around the hit ‘Star Wars’ show ‘The Mandalorian,’ this year’s festivities will take place Feb. 22-27.

Leadership in Her Style

First-year political science student Katie Scoggin recently won the top prize in UAA’s Leadership in Your Style competition. Her winning song, "It Starts with Me," urges individuals and communities to identify unfilled needs and then work together to meet them.

EPSCoR Conference and Development Awards

The Alaska NSF EPSCoR Fire & Ice project announces the availability of funding for UA-affiliated individuals to present their research, to interact with colleagues and mentors, and/or to obtain training in science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM) fields. Awards can be used to participate in conferences, workshops, trainings, or other appropriate academic activities, either remotely or in person.

Register for February's Zoom training

Monthly live Zoom training, presented by OIT Video Conferencing Services staff, will start Feb. 9 and continue throughout the year. Offerings include the “Zoom Basics Training” and an “Advanced/Ask Me Anything” section. The advanced training will cover breakout rooms, meeting security and any other topics you have questions about. Please register through the OIT training calendar in a time slot that fits your schedule.
