ZTC/OER as Part of a Student-Centered Major
This week has shown that Open Educational Resources (OER) and other zero cost course materials have the potential to dramatically reduce access barriers for our students, and many UAA courses have adopted ZTC/OER materials. In this last post, we highlight what happens when faculty join together to incorporate ZTC/OER in multiple courses as part of a larger student-centered major!

The UAA School of Education Early Childhood Program puts students first by becoming more student-centered - committed to using Open Resource, Free-to-access materials, and other low-cost materials in all courses. This aligns with UAA strategies of 2025.
The UAA Department Early Childhood program faculty support, promote and live the 21st Century 4Cs: Collaboration, Creativity, Communication, and Critical Thinking. Using zero-cost and low-cost materials is one way we are helping our students be successful in their own learning and in their work with Alaska’s youngest citizens.
Participating in the global Open Education Week is part of UAA's Textbook Affordability initiative to make college more affordable. This series will provide you with practical tips and inspiration for improving student success by reducing the cost of course materials and incorporating open educational practices.

Interested in making a difference but you’d rather not go it alone? The Textbook Affordability Fellows program has provided structured support and $2,500 compensation to 19 UAA faculty who have transitioned from commercial to ZTC/OER course materials over the past 2 years.
