Return to campus plan

by Bruce Schultz, UAA Interim Chancellor  |

Dear UAA Anchorage Campus Employees,

I’m following up regarding our plan to return to on-site campus operations this fall. Interim Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services Bill Jacob, in coordination with a planning team, has developed an approach for employees to return to the Anchorage campus ahead of the fall 2021 semester. As you know, summer session courses began this week. We continue to follow the same protocols as we did during the spring '21 semester with limited face-to-face courses, about 72 this semester, and restricted access to campus facilities.

Please note this plan only applies to UAA Anchorage campus faculty, staff and students and not the general public. More information will be shared at a later date regarding campus opening to the public.

UAA return to campus

May 24, limited (soft) opening: This moves UAA’s Anchorage campus to COVID Operations Phase C. Key faculty and staff may come to campus with approval from department heads to identify and assess facility needs in preparation for opening.

June 1, restricted opening: Department heads develop and implement transition plans during this period to return employees to on-campus work on or before Aug. 2. Faculty and staff come to campus as guided by department heads.

Aug. 2, fall 2021 opening: Faculty and staff return to work on campus to ensure fall classes are conducted. Campus open to all faculty, staff and students.

Remote work prior to Aug. 2 may continue based on departmental transition plans. Per UA HR guidance, supervisors will need to complete telework agreements with employees.

UA HR will issue further guidance about long-term on-site, remote and hybrid work based on the recommendations of the UA Post-COVID Workplace Team. We are suspending use of the employee tracker tool effective immediately.

UAA safety protocols

  • Continue wearing masks (per UA's updated mask policy, masks are only required for those unvaccinated)
  • Maintain six feet of social distancing
  • Use your WolfCard to access campus buildings
  • Local entry procedures in use where access control system is not yet installed

Events

  • Virtual camps for summer will continue and in-person camps are prohibited
  • Small indoor meetings with social distancing may occur for employees authorized to be on campus
  • Beginning June 1, outdoor activities for UAA faculty, staff and students enrolled in summer courses may occur on campus with fewer than 50 people. Please schedule through 25Live for approval by Environmental Health, Safety and Risk Management

I encourage you to visit UAA’s section of the COVID-19 information site for specific information regarding COVID-19 protocols. Thank you for your cooperation throughout this process and for supporting UAA’s plan to return to in-person operations.

Sincerely,
Bruce Schultz, Ed.D.
UAA Interim Chancellor
