Fall Teaching Academy runs Aug. 16-17 with Adjunct Orientation & Academy on Aug. 18
by UAA Faculty Development & Instructional Support |
We encourage you to grab your morning coffee or tea and log in starting at 8:45 a.m. Monday to settle in and visit with colleagues as week begin our 2021 Fall Teaching Academy. Our Land Acknowledgement, Words of Welcome and Provost Runge's Plenary Session will begin at 9 a.m. With sessions on almost 30 topics led by 29 members of the university community, there are many options to engage, learn and (re)connect! Sessions run throughout the day Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 16-17, for all faculty, post-docs, and interested GTAs. Sessions specially tailored to adjunct faculty will be offered the evening of Wednesday, Aug. 18.
Sessions
This fall's sessions include new twists on start-of-the-year staples (syllabi, assignments,
grading, academic technologies), ways to refine and employ evidence-based practices,
opportunities to explore and consider the emerging "new normal," and practices that
build community and close equity gaps. New this year are sessions related to two specific
student populations that have not been addressed in previous Teaching Academies: military
and veteran students and graduate students.
Sessions will be delivered via Zoom, with the exception of programming delivered by Tim Wheelock from IT's AV Services. Tim will lead a F2F opportunity for faculty who wish to review updates to classroom technology that will be found in many of the classrooms in Anchorage. Participants in the classroom technology session should be mindful of the campus expectations around masking, social distancing and accessing buildings using a chip-enabled WolfCard. Registration is required. We have a cap on the number of participants in Tim's sessions due to social distancing and room capacity requirements, but we will develop a waiting list.
