The School of Nursing is seeking applications for the Recruitment and Retention of Alaska Natives into Nursing (RRANN) Student Success Facilitator position.
About the Recruitment and Retention of Alaska Natives into Nursing (RRANN) Program
RRANN has helped hundreds of Alaska Native and American Indian students graduate from
the UAA School of Nursing. RRANN currently assists nurse majors and pre-majors on
University of Alaska campuses statewide by offering tutoring services, material lending,
group meetings to help you connect with peers, and Student Success Facilitators that
offer career and personal advice to aid nursing and pre-nursing students in successfully
completing the UA Nursing program.
Position Duties
Prospective Student Engagement: Establish and maintain contact with prospective students interested in nursing as a career and provide them with information about strategies for achieving the goal through programs offered by the UAA School of Nursing and on other campuses within the UA system. Conduct tours and presentations for prospective students visiting the UAA campus. Work with program staff to maintain prospective student statistics and records to be included in progress reports.
RRANN Participant Recruitment and Coordination: Receive and process electronic enrollment forms and enter them into the RRANN database. Manage RRANN student enrollment applications and associated documentation including documentation of Indigenous descent. Maintain accurate lists of RRANN students and graduates. Maintain program statistics for reports.
RRANN Scholarship Support: Assist students in applying for RRANN scholarships, organize and keep records of scholarship applications received, notify students of receipt of applications, and serve on scholarship review committee. Regularly meet with students to ensure compliance with scholarship requirements, and support students in identifying other scholarships or financial supports.
RRANN Student Support: Review RRANN services with newly enrolled students. Communicate regularly with RRANN students on opportunities and resources. Coordinate the RRANN lending closet for nursing students. Establish contact with Alaska Native/American Indian (AN/AI) pre-nursing major, nursing major, and RN to BS students. Establish and maintain on-going supportive relationships and assist them to effectively access and utilize campus and community resources that promote students' comfort, success, and retention. Monitor the effectiveness of those resources in facilitating student success and retention. Identify obstacles and work collectively with program staff to resolve issues that threaten student success and retention. Work with program staff to develop programs that are designed to increase student retention. Develop and maintain working relationship with Residence Life, UAA student service programs, school districts, and community entities to assist in success of nursing students. Organize and design regular meetings with students and/or residence life to include guest speakers and community building activities. Monitor student progress toward gaining admission to and during the nursing major through regular interaction with students, administration, and faculty; refer students to needed academic support services and monitor the effectiveness of referrals. Share complex academic and campus information with first-year college students; provide general academic success guidance and refer students to advising staff for specific academic counseling. Facilitate RRANN gatherings and activities for students.
