A course on Alaska Native literature helps students fulfill degree requirement.

by Green & Gold News  |

This spring semester PWSC Associate Professor of English, Dr. Dennis Humphrey is teaching ENGL A245 - Alaska Native Literatures. This course studies traditional historical stories and contemporary texts written in English by Alaska Natives.

As part of completing their degree requirements, students need an
Alaska-themed course.  A course on Alaska Native literature helps students
fulfill that degree requirement.

Dr. Humphrey’s class focuses on the oral tradition and how Alaska Native
literature fits with literature from other indigenous peoples.

Humphrey shares, “The course will be looking at the stories, tales, and
myths of Native Alaska literature. We're also looking at similar stories
from other indigenous groups to have a basis for comparison.  Comparing and
contrasting different works, and considering them in conversation with one
another, is an important part of this course.”
This course is accessible on Zoom as well as face-to-face. No textbook is
required.
