This summer, Memphis Hill, Ph.D., led a team to collect sediment and water samples from sites near Grewingk Glacier in the hopes of identifying ‘extreme microbes’ — microbes that can survive in extreme environments, like underneath glaciers.

The primary objective of the Alaska INBRE Undergraduate Research Assistantship (URA) Scholar initiative is to support undergraduate students engaged in biomedical and health science research with mentorship from researchers across the AK INBRE network.
