Pont named acting AD for UAA Athletics
by Green & Gold News |
University of Alaska Anchorage Interim Chancellor Cheryl Siemers announced Friday that Tanya Pont has been named acting director of athletics, effective immediately. Pont replaces former athletic director Ryan Swartwood, who recently accepted the same role at California State University Northridge.
Pont currently serves as executive director for University Advancement and brings more than 20 years of experience in community engagement, marketing, and revenue generation. She began her UAA career with Seawolf Athletics in 2017 and has held key leadership roles in both athletics and alumni relations.
In addition, head men’s basketball coach Rusty Osborne will serve as acting senior associate athletic director. With over three decades at UAA and 20 seasons as head coach, Osborne’s institutional knowledge and commitment to student-athlete development will be instrumental during this transition.
UAA will launch a national search for a permanent director of athletics. Individuals interested in serving on the search committee are invited to submit a letter of interest to the Office of the Chancellor by Oct. 20.
UAA remains committed to supporting its student-athletes and ensuring the continued success of Seawolf Athletics.
