Fall 2024 undergraduate student commencement speaker Iqlas Dubed’s story is marked by resilience, transformation and a deep commitment to making a difference. Originally from Ethiopia, she immigrated to Anchorage with her family in 2012 as a refugee and has called it home since.

UAA and LG open heat pump labs for cold-climate HVAC research

A new state-of-the-art, real-world-simulated lab opened by UAA and LG in Anchorage will be used to test all new cold climate products for the North American market. An additional lab in Fairbanks will be used to test below negative 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

Structuring support

If there is anything civil engineering and project management alumnus Mohamed Niagne is passionate about, it is support structures — in engineering, and especially in relationships. As the graduate student commencement speaker for the fall Class of 2024, Niagne hopes to convey the importance of those support structures, which led him from the Alaska Native Science and Engineering Program at UAA to his current position at the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities.
