TIPS FOR THE SPRING 2014 GLOBAL OPPORTUNITIES EXPO

WHICH UAA STUDY ABROAD PARTNERS WILL BE THERE?

Representatives from the following UAA study abroad affiliates will be at the Global Opportunities Expo, "Study Abroad Only" Fair, and Mat-Su Study Abroad Fair:

  • Academic Programs International (API)

  • American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS)

  • GlobaLinks Learning Abroad

  • Institute for Study Abroad-Butler University (IFSA-Butler)

HELPFUL HINT:

To get a complete list of countries and which of UAA's partners offer programs at those destinations:

->  Go to the study abroad and exchange page of our website
      (http://www.uaa.alaska.edu/oiia/studyabroad/index.cfm)

->  Scroll down to "Where Can I Go?" and

->  Click on "UAA Education Abroad Links"

Knowing which partners offer programs at the destinations that interest you can make it easier to determine which program representatives you want to talk to during the events the affiliates will be at. Scroll farther down the same web page for links to UAA's exchange and study abroad partners' websites to look at some of their programs more in-depth.

ASKING THE RIGHT QUESTIONS:

You can walk up to each representative's table and ask any of these questions:

  • I'm majoring in ______. Where do you have programs that might be a good fit for my major?
  • What scholarships do you offer?  How much do your programs cost? What do those costs include (airfare, boarding, etc.)?
  • Why do you think it is important to study abroad? What is special about what your organization offers?
  • Are there special prerequisites or requirements for participating in the program(s) I am interested in?
  • What kind of support services do you provide on-site?
  • Do you have evaluations, comments, or blog archives from students who have done the programs I am interested in that I can look over?
  • Where can I find good information about the universities and cities I am interested in?

Bring a friend and join us at the Expo!
