Human Subjects Research and COVID-19

This section provides the university's guidance to UAA researchers due to COVID-19. The UAA IRB and ORIC continue to operate during normal business hours, working remotely during the hunker down period.

The Office of Research Integrity and Compliance published the following memo on March 23rd: COVID-19 Guidance on Human Subjects Research

Given remote-work procedures and social distancing concerns, many investigators will be interacting with study participants and accessing study data differently. Depending on the specifics of your protocols, different kinds of updates to your protocols may be necessary. To ease administrative burden, the IRB/ORIC have crafted a new modification request form focused on data management during the health crisis. For proposed changes to data management protocols, please submit just the new form and no other documents will be needed to begin the review.

Any other modifications must be made following standard procedures to request modifications to approved protocols, such as to accommodate social distancing with research participants.

The new form can be found on IRBNet in the Forms and Templates Library for UAA researchers: 2.2 Forms: COVID-19 Pandemic Data Access change request form.

Future updates will be posted here as needed.
