General Housing Scholarship
Campus Services and the Department of Residence Life are proud to announce the creation of a $1,000 per semester General Housing Scholarship for the 2022-2023 academic year. All students living in student housing in the fall 2022 and spring 2023 semesters will automatically receive the scholarship in the form of a $1,000 discount on their semester housing costs. No additional application is necessary beyond submission of the housing application, which is now available! This scholarship is being created in recognition of the ongoing financial impact of the pandemic and in an effort to make the amazing experience of living on campus an option to as many students as possible. We are also pleased to share that student housing costs at UAA have seen no significant increases in over four years, making this scholarship even more impactful as it discounts prices that have been kept intentionally low to support students.
General Housing Scholarship Details
This is a $1,000 per semester scholarship for a total possible annual discount of $2,000 if a student lives in student housing in both the fall 2022 and spring 2023 semesters. The scholarship is being created for the 2022-2023 academic year only. Students will be notified if UAA decides to extend the scholarship into any future semester. All of the room types in UAA’s residential community are eligible for the scholarship (i.e. apartment, residence hall, single, double, shared room).
The only criteria a student must meet to receive the scholarship is living in student housing at UAA during the fall 2022 or spring 2023 semesters. There is not a separate application for the scholarship or any other action required beyond living in student housing. Students do not have to live in student housing for both semesters to qualify for the scholarship. For more information on eligibility requirements for living in student housing and how to apply, please visit the How-to-Apply webpage.
Terms and Conditions
In most cases, the scholarship can be stacked on top of any other discounts, rate reductions or financial assistance applied to the semester room cost for student housing, regardless of the source of the discount or funding. The scholarship can only be awarded in the form of a discount (i.e. a reduction in the amount charged to a student’s account), and cannot be used to pay for the deposit, application fee or any other charges or fees a student owes to UAA. If a student moves onto campus after the beginning of the semester and has their housing charges prorated, the amount of the scholarship will also be prorated.
The scholarship amount, eligibility requirements and determination process, and all other terms related to the General Housing Scholarship included here are subject to change, with or without notice, at the sole discretion of the University.
Frequently Asked Questions

No, there is not a separate scholarship application. The scholarship will be automatically added to the student account of all students living in student housing in the fall 2022 and spring 2023 semesters
Am I eligible to live in student housing at UAA?
In order to live in student housing at UAA, you must be an admitted student enrolled in at least 9 undergraduate or 3 graduate credits. Students must be at least 16 years old to live on campus, and 16-17 year old students must have a parent or guardian sign the Housing and Dining Agreement on their behalf. UAA may also deny housing to a student based on their behavioral or criminal history; these determinations are made on a case-by-case basis.
How do I apply for student housing at UAA?
Admitted students can access the housing application on UAOnline. Visit the How to Apply for Housing page on our website for information about the housing application.
I am also a UA Scholar and/or an admitted student in active status in the University
Honors College. Will I still receive this scholarship in addition to the Academic
Honors Housing Scholarship?
Yes! Students who meet all the eligibility requirements will receive the General Housing Scholarship in the fall 2022 and/or spring 2023 semester(s) in addition to the $750 per semester Academic Honors Housing Scholarship for a potential total discount of $1,750 off the semester room cost for student housing or $3,500 for the academic year.
My student housing costs are covered by another scholarship or other funding source. Can
I receive the General Housing Scholarship or its value in some other way?
No. The General Housing Scholarship is only applied in the form of a discount on the semester room cost of student housing.
The semester room cost for housing is on my student account but the scholarship is
not. What should I do?
First, students can thoroughly read the information on this website to ensure they meet all the eligibility requirements to receive the scholarship. Next, students can access an itemized list of expenses and payments on their student account on UAOnline under the Student Services & Account Information tab to determine if the discount has been applied.
Scholarships should be applied to student accounts within ten days prior to the start of classes, or within two weeks of application for students who apply for housing after August 15. If you don't see the discount on your account by the time classes start or you have other questions, please feel free to contact the Department of Residence Life at 907-751-7202 or via email at email@example.com.
I am living in student housing over the summer. Will the General Housing Scholarship
go towards the cost for summer housing?
The General Housing Scholarship is only applied in the fall and spring semesters.
Will the scholarship impact my financial aid?
Residence Life is obligated to notify the Financial Aid Office when a student’s semester housing costs have been adjusted in order for the student’s estimated Cost of Attendance to be updated. It is possible that this adjustment will result in a scenario in which too much aid has been disbursed to the student or the student paid a higher amount than was necessary to the institution. The Financial Aid Office will communicate with students should any of these scenarios apply to them. If you need assistance or have any questions, please contact the Financial Aid Office.
Is there anything I need to know about the scholarship for my taxes?
The amount of all scholarships and grants processed by the institution in a calendar year are reported for tax purposes on Form 1098-T. Since the General Housing Scholarship is processed as a reduction in the amount charged to a student for housing expenses (or a discount) as opposed to a payment on the account, the amount of the scholarship will not be reported on Form 1098-T. Discounts are also not reported on this form.
