Mary Weiss RN MS CTN-A
Mary Weiss graduated with a Bachelor’s in Nursing from the University of San Francisco and worked in San Francisco and Alaska for many years. She has worked in Juneau, Hoonah, Fairbanks, Anchorage, Barrow, Nome, and for the past 6 years in Bethel. In addition to nursing education she has worked in intensive care, coronary care, intensive care nursery, cancer research, school nursing, long term care, health administration, med-surg, and psych. In the 1990s she received her Masters in Nursing in the Public Health Nursing track from the University of Alaska Anchorage. She found graduate studies so intellectually stimulating and enjoyable that she received a second masters in nursing from the University of Alaska Anchorage in psych/mental health nursing.
Mary joined the UAA School of Nursing first as a graduate student/adjunct professor and resource coordinator, and then as a full-time member of the faculty. She is currently an associate professor happily living and teaching in Bethel. She enjoys taking part in Bethel community activities and can usually be found volunteering for the various community events held throughout the year.
Since coming to Bethel she has become especially interested in transcultural nursing issues and is an active member of the transcultural nursing society. Mary has two adult children and two beautiful and charming young grandchildren.
