Question for Betty.

Does the diet pill SlimQuick interfere with hormonal birthcontrol pills?  The advertisement states it balances out hormones.

Betty's Answer.

SlimQuick is one of many weight loss products sold without first having to demonstrate that they are safe and effective.  Hazardous ingredients have been known to turn up in dietary supplements marketed for weight loss, as well as for body building and sexual enhancement.  The Food and Drug Administration reports that manufacturers have voluntarily recalled more than 40 weight-loss supplements containing unsafe drugs, over the past two years.  In light of potentially serious health risks, including changes in blood pressure, serious liver injury, kidney failure, heart attack and stroke, you may want to avoid these products.

For your specific question on whether SlimQuick interferes with birthcontrol pills, the answer is unknown.  It's ingredients have not been tested for safety, effectiveness, or for drug interactions. It would be  prudent to use a back-up method of birth contol if you continue to use this product.  SlimQuick warns to not use when you are pregnant or nursing or when you are at risk of or are being treated for high blood pressure, liver, thyroid, or psychiatric disease, diabetes, pernicious anemia, nervousness, anxiety, depression, seizure disorder, cardiac arrythmias, stroke, pheochromacytoma, or prostrate problems.

I encourage you to contact your health care provider before taking any new medications including dietary supplements.
