Question for Betty.

I have thyroid problems that run in my family, I have been very sluggish lately and have been gaining weight consistently regardless of the fact that I watch what I eat and work out 3-5 times a week.  Where can I go to get my thyroid levels checked and how much would it cost at the Student Health Center?

Betty's Answer.

The symptoms you are describing may be signs of hypothyroidism.  These may include fatigue, weakness, cold intolerance, constipation, weight gain, depression, and dry skin.  If you are an eligible student you may make an appointment to see a nurse practitioner at the Student Health and Counseling Center.  After examining you they may suggest ordering lab tests which may include a TSH level,  at this time the price is $17.50, but this may vary depending on the tests ordered.
