Question for Betty.

I am on again off again with a regular period cycle and I am not on birth control anymore.  I started my period last Wednesday and had unprotected sex on Saturday.  My period then stopped for a day and has been spotty ever since. Could I really be pregnant and should I take a pregnancy test?

Betty's Answer.

Yes, you could be pregnant if you are having unprotected intercourse. I encourage you to take a pregnancy test, which is accurate 7 to 10 days post intercourse.  Condoms are readily available and, if used properly, will reduce your risk for an unplanned pregnancy as well as for sexually transmitted infections. I encourage you to make an appointment with the Student Health and Counseling Center, if you are an eligible UAA student, or with your health care provider for a pregnancy test, STI screening and contraceptive counseling.
