Frequently Asked Questions by UAA Students/Alumni

  • How do I get to your new location (The University Hub: WFSC 142)
The entrance to The University Hub is on the lower level of the UAA Student Union (2921 Spirit Way). After you go down the stairs or on the elevator, The University Hub should be on your left. There is a mural of Spirit (UAA mascot) guiding you to the entrance of The University Hub. We are on the opposite end of the UAA Den.
  • Can you help me create my resume/cover letter?

We encourage you to create your own resume and cover letters using our Handouts and AKCIS' Resume Builder. We would be happy to review your resume/cover letter with you through a one-on-one appointment after you've attempted a draft. Please also feel free to also stop by during our Drop-In Hours. We can provide you with our handouts to help you get started.

  • Will you be finding a job for me?
Providing job placement services limits our students from developing the skills they will need in their future career. Career Exploration & Services is here to provide you with resources for your career development. Our mission is to ensure that you develop the skills to find jobs that are aligned with your interests, goals, and values. We provide guidance and assistance to help you on your journey to your career. To help you in your job search, we can schedule a Job Searching appointment to explore various ways for you to find your ideal job based on your major/degree/career field interest.
  • How do I make an appointment?

Please review our appointment types before making an appointment. You can make an appointment through your Seawolves@Work (Powered by Handshake) account by clicking on Appointments on the left-navigation.

CES also offers Drop-In Hours. Hours vary by semester. Please check Handshake, our website, or social media for updates.

Special Notice:

The UAA Career Exploration & Services (CES) reserves the right to reschedule or cancel an appointment for any given reason. We try to give adequate notice, but it is not always possible due to varying situations.

Certain appointment types make it necessary for CES staff to have enough time to properly review your documents or do research before our appointment so some appointment types do have requirements that are due by 8:00 am the day of your appointment. If the required documents are not submitted prior to 8:00 am (AKST) of the appointment, CES reserves the right to cancel your appointment.

As of January 2013, the UAA Career Exploration & Services is unable to accommodate one-on-one resume, cover letter, mock interview, job searching, and/or career advising appointments with clients other than people that have ever taken a University of Alaska (UA) class. Non-UA clients are welcome to utilize our resources, including library privileges and information featured on our website. Non-UA clients are encouraged to connect with the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development at www.labor.state.ak.us. Job Centers in Alaska can be found at www.jobs.state.ak.us/offices/
