Cama-i Room

The Cama-i Room is a social gathering place and study center, focusing specifically on the needs of Alaska Native, Native American, and rural students living on the UAA Campus. Cama-i (pronounced Cha-my) is a Yupik and Alutiiq word for “welcome” and “hello.” It encompasses the spirit in which the room was created for all UAA students.

The Cama-i room hosts a variety of representatives from UAA departments and programs to regularly interact with residents in their residential community and provides greater access and interaction between students, campus and local community agencies. Student leaders serve as peer mentors and maintain operation of the room and provide continued outreach to students during late night hours. Cama-i Room programs and activities celebrate Alaska Native, Native American, and Alaskan cultures. The Alaska Native & Rural Outreach Program (ANROP) is based out of the Cama-i Room and is open to all UAA students, residents, and Anchorage community members.
