The Student Activities and Commuter Student Programs mission is to enhance the overall UAA academic experience through providing programs and activities that foster a sense of belonging for UAA students and their families. These programs and activities allow students to explore areas of diversity, social justice, leadership, self-awareness, healthy life skills, and community engagement.
WHO WE ARE
Student Activities and Commuter Student Programs offer a variety of events and programs to make campus life exciting for all. From concerts to hypnotists to nationally-touring comedians, poets, and musicians, we provided something for everyone!
Programming Team: This team consists of UAA students who coordinate events. These students select, produce, and promote more than 150 events per year.
Daily Den Team: The Den is located on the first floor of the Student Union. Commuter Student Programs provides this area as a student lounge from Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A variety of free beverages and healthy snacks are provided in the morning (10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.) and in the afternoon (2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.) during the fall and spring semesters. Students can hang out, study, relax, play games (we provide them!), have snacks, visit with friends, and make some new ones.
Hugh McPeck Gallery Team: The Hugh McPeck Gallery showcases artwork created by UAA students. Each art exhibit opens with a Wednesday afternoon reception and lasts for several weeks.
Graphics Team: This team helps create and promote all events through graphics and promotional items for the UAA and Anchorage communities.
WHAT WE DO
Student Engagement: Committed to meeting the diverse entertainment and cultural needs of the UAA campus, Student Activities and Commuter Student Programs present a wide variety of weekly, monthly, and annual events. These events are made possible due to student fees (currently $4.50 per credit for students enrolled in on-campus courses: six or more credits during the fall/spring semesters, at least three credits during the summer semester). By providing a variety of engaging events to the UAA community, we put your student fees to work!
Off-Campus Living: We can help you find student-friendly living arrangements, connect with student roommates, and find a temporary renter to sublease. Check out our housing board on the second floor of the Student Union to find roommates, apartments, and more.
Transportation: We can help you connect to UAA departments or Anchorage businesses that provide car maintenance, bicycle workshops, carpooling opportunities, Anchorage trails and traffic information, public transportation, on-campus parking, Seawolf Shuttle information, and more.
Health: We offer all sorts of free events that encourage a healthy lifestyle, including dance lessons, yoga, Zumba, and more. Also be sure to use your student benefits at the Student Health and Counseling Center.
Belonging: Discover the countless opportunites to interact within the UAA community. Share your interests, and we'll point you in the right direction. Stay in the loop with campus events by checking out the Wolfwire and UAA Life websites.
UAA Votes: Register to vote at the Student Union Information Desk or at one of our mobile station locations around campus. We are also an absentee voter polling site, so you can cast your ballot right here in the Student Union beginning the day before an election.
